Sightseeing in the surrounding area
Quite close to the Pleiades there are some of the most beautiful villages of mountains Achaia, such as Peristera, Solo, Zarouchla, Mesorrougi, etc. The visitors can enjoy delicious, traditional dishes and warm hospitality in their picturesque taverns. For further excursions, the Cave of Lakes is very interesting.
Waters of Styx
Waters of Styx is one of the springs of the river Krathi, in Helmos, Achaia at an altitude of 2,100 meters, which we will meet on our route shortly before the Pleiades, According to mythology, anyone who bathed in its waters became immortal, just like Achilles, by his mother Thetis. Today the landscape is exactly the same as described by the mythology.
The famous Lake Tsivlou is located at an altitude of 700m and was created in 1913 after landslides. River Krathis was blocked and the entire villages of Silivena and Tsivlos were buried beneath the rocks. Thus, the beautiful Lake Tsivlou was born with its characteristic blue-green colour, a very important wetland that hosts many species of flora and fauna. It is a popular destination for walks, swimming, fishing and canoeing.
Churches and houses of chieftains
Visit the house of Captain Nikolaos Christodoulou in the village of Solo and in the village of Saint Varvara, visit the towers of Argyriades and Theocharopoulos. In the village of Saint Varvara, there is also the church of the same name, as well as of Saint George, with its beautiful bell tower. Finally, in the village of Vounaki, you will find the picturesque church of Saint Panteleimon and in the village of Halikianika, the church of Virgin Mary, both built on the rocks.
Kalavrita Ski resort
One of the largest ski resorts in Greece, located at ''Xerokampos'', featuring 13 ski slopes and 8 lifts of a total lenght of 25 km. It is the only 10km far from Pleiades.
Cave of Lakes
The cave consists of 13 consecutive tiered lakes, with a utilised lenght of 500m, of a total of 1,950m. The tour is done through artificial bridges. It is the only one of its kind.
One of the most advanced telescopes, Aristarchos, has been installed here because of the fact that the Helmos region has little light pollution compared to the rest of Europe. So, it has the ability to '"see" in the depths of the universe. In addition, the specific nature of the area helps the visitor admire the starry night sky, even with naked eye, far better than any other area.
